This resource has been designed with secondary science teachers and learners in mind. Written by a secondary science teacher, it provides a comprehensive activity-based approach to exploring the fascinating topic of human evolution. Human Evolution provides notes on the major hominin species: the australopithecines, paranthropines, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis, Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens. Engaging activities cover primate characteristics and locomotion, the evolution of bipedalism, skeletal comparisons, cultural evolution of tools, the control of fire, the development of art, fossil enigmas, human migration from Africa, as well as a quiz and research topics. All activities are supported by detailed model answers. Activities may be completed individually or in groups to encourage cooperative learning and discussion. In addition a list of useful websites is included to support some of the activities, as background information, for revision, and to expand students' knowledge and understanding of current theories of human evolution.
